Frequently Asked Questions

If you are starting out in the hair, nail, and beauty industry it can be very daunting so we thought we would help you by answering our most frequently asked questions and queries.

Why do I need insurance?

If you are carrying out treatments on the public, your friends or even relatives and something goes wrong, if you have followed your training and the terms and conditions of your insurance policy, it will cover you if someone makes a claim against you.

What insurance policy do I need?

If you are self-employed and working from home, mobile or renting a space from a salon then you more than likely need an individual policy that covers your public, products, and treatment liability. If you own a salon, then you need a packaged salon policy. Call us to talk through your requirements if you’re unsure.

Which policy would I need if I work from a summer house in the garden?

If you have converted a bedroom or your garage into a salon or if you have a summer house or outbuilding in your garden you would need to have the self-employed policy rather than a salon policy. However, if you have employees or rent any spaces out to other therapists then you would need the salon policy. Your house insurance provider should also be notified that you are working from home so they can take account of additional risks such as stock or equipment for example.

What sort of training do I need to take out insurance?

We do not accept online training courses as we believe practical face to face training is the best when learning how to perform a beauty treatment. We will cover therapists with a wide range of training but it’s always best to check with us if you hold qualifications outside of the usual NVQ’s for example.

Can I add additional treatments to my policy at a later date?

Our policies cover over 200 treatments as standard. If you learn a new treatment and it is on our list, then once you’re qualified you will automatically be covered for it. If it is an advanced treatment such as laser or IPL, we can add this to your existing policy and we will just charge you a pro rata amount for the rest of your policy year.

How do I know if you will accept my qualifications?

We accept qualifications gained from face-to-face training. We also accept qualifications that have been gained abroad providing they have been converted into their UK equivalent by Naric. If in doubt, give us a call or check our policy wording out on our website.

Is there any other cover I may need?

You may wish to cover your kit and equipment for accidental damage and theft. This can be added to our insurance policy at the start or can be added at any time.

How can I trust your company?

We are an insurance broker with a number of years experience in the hair, nail and beauty industry and are governed by the Financial Conduct Authority.

How can I check your policy conditions such as patch testing, age limits etc?

All of our policy conditions are on our website www.professionalbeautydirect.co.uk. They can be found on page on page 19 of the policy wording.
