Beauty Courses: Are You Covered?

At Professional Beauty Direct we love talking to our customers.  Every day we receive phone calls and emails with questions on age limits, patch testing and treatments.  It’s always worth checking as no one wants to be caught out doing a treatment they are not insured to do.

Our self-employed individual beauty policy has around 300 treatments covered as standard, all for the fantastic price of £52.50 for a year.  With £6 million worth of public, products and treatment liability cover, you’re in good hands.

Imagine you’re looking at adding a new treatment to your menu.  Firstly, you need to find a course that will teach you it.  Cost of the course, reputation of the trainer and location will all come in to play.  But have you considered the length of the course or any pre requisite qualifications to that treatment we may require you to have as well, before we can insure you?

For instance, we do accept some one day face to face learning courses covering treatments such as lashes, spray tans and brow lamination.  However, for more advanced treatments or treatments that pose a higher risk to the client, such as waxing (where we receive more claims) we would require a more in-depth course to have been undertaken to ensure you’ve had good practical training and understand the relevant theory and risks of the treatment.

Online courses are growing in popularity in this digital age, but ask yourself, would you really feel comfortable performing a treatment on someone when you have had no physical training on a model or a trainer’s guidance and assessment at the end? The other way to think of this is would you feel comfortable having a treatment yourself from someone who hadn’t had any practical training? For this reason, we don’t accept any online, distance learning courses. All training will need to be face to face and we require you to hold a certificate in that treatment to perform it.  If you are receiving salon training from a fellow therapist with no teaching qualification, this is also not acceptable to us.

If you’re unsure, the best thing to do before you book and pay for a course is to give us a call or email and we’ll take a look at the course details and your existing qualifications and give you some guidance.
