Treating Minors
Treating Minors

At Professional Beauty Direct we are contacted every day to ask about age restrictions on treatments.

First and foremost, always follow your training and the manufacturer's instructions of any products you are using on age restrictions. If a client is under 16 you would need written parental consent and a parent or guardian present for all standard treatments.

Under our cover, you cannot apply acrylic nails to anyone under the age of 14, regardless of whether a parent or guardian has consented to the treatment. If they are 14 – 16 you still must have written parental consent. Gel nails or a simple manicure are great alternatives to offer younger clients and are not as damaging to the young nail bed as acrylics.

For advanced treatments such as IPL, Laser, Dermaplaning etc. our policy would not cover you to treat anyone under the age of 18, regardless of parental consent. With treatments such as Dermaplaning growing in popularity, we would always recommend checking a clients ID before proceeding with an appointment.

When keeping client record cards, you will need to keep record cards for 7 years after a minor turns 18.

If you don’t feel comfortable treating a minor we will back you on your decision, we are always here to discuss any concerns with you!
