Using Tik Tok to promote your hair and beauty business

With over 1.5 billion downloads, Tik Tok is now the most downloaded app on the Apple app stores with over 500 million monthly users worldwide! Tik Tok is a creative social platform, so if you are a creative person or want to promote your business, it is a great idea to join to enable you to reach a potentially huge audience.

What is TikTok?

TikTok first launched in 2016 but in the last year or so, it has grown in popularity due to the pandemic and it being something to cure boredom! It is an app that lets you make and share short 15 – 60 second videos. Statistics show that 50% of the users on TikTok are under the age of 34 and that there are more women than men using it. Out of these users, it is shown that 90% of them log onto this app every single day. It could be a great idea to get ahead of the trend and grow your TikTok following now!

Not all your clients will want to download and use this app but that’s okay! You can save the videos created on your TikTok to post across several social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.

Tips on how to use TikTok for your hair and beauty business.

  • Talk to your clients
Use this platform to create videos interacting with your clients. Ask them what they would like to see from you and then answer their questions in your videos. It could be how to style your fringe, skincare tips or how to look after your nails. This builds the relationship that you already have with your clients, builds their trust and will hopefully lead to long lasting loyalty from them.
  • Be authentic
A lot of social media users do not use expensive equipment and lighting. Most of the time, they are recording from their mobile phone and use good, natural lighting. This is more authentic to who they are, and it will enable you to become more approachable to your clients. Use this opportunity to show more of your personality too!
  • Video tutorials
‘How to’ videos are popular on TikTok and mainly revolve around the hair and beauty industry. Why not teach your clients how to create a slick ponytail or maybe a French braid? It is useful, everyday content that your clients will love, and it also shows your love for this industry too.
  • Hashtags
To get your videos seen by a wider audience, you need to be using hashtags. For example, #skincare is one of the most popular ones used with over 7.8 billion views and #makeuphacks having over 3 billion views.
  • Promote your business name.

You can create a TikTok account using your business name as your username to get it out there and become known. You cannot add a business logo to your TikTok profile so it may be a good idea to film your videos in front of your logo if that’s possible. It is simple, repetitive branding that people will recognise if they see if often enough.

  • Trending videos
You do not have to struggle to come up with new and unique video ideas for TikTok. The platform is based around community engagement, trending videos and hashtags. So, all you have to do is find existing content and make it your own. Use what is already on the app and put your own spin on it depending on what you are trying to promote.
  • Have fun!
TikTok is not the place for formal and super professional posts. It is a space for users and brands to experiment with trends, act silly and playful, and show another side of themselves.
